Mobile Number Portability (MNP)

Switch your mobile phone network and keep your existing number!

What is mobile number portability (MNP)? Mobile number portability (MNP) is the process of transferring (porting) your mobile phone number from one mobile phone network provider to another. You may want to do this if you wish to sign up to a new mobile phone provider and keep your original mobile phone number, thus saving you the inconvenience of updating your contacts with your new telephone number. Mobile number porting is becoming increasingly popular worldwide due to the savings that can be made by switching mobile phone providers in order to get a better mobile phone tariff..

Speaking on the launch of Mobile Number Portability (MNP) Mr. Kapil Sibal said that first phase of the MNP has been launched today in Haryana and customers in the state now have the option of changing their service provider without changing their mobile numbers. He said the choice based services initiate healthy competition among service providers which ultimately benefits ‘Aam Aadmi’.

The mobile number portability (MNP) will be launched across India by January 20,  2011. For orderly technical migration of complex interconnected networks, each of the remaining service areas will be migrated one by one on alternate days. This will enable simultaneous validation of technical parameters and removal of any problems arising from migration activity to ensure successful and smooth migration of a service area. Migration activities will not take place during the festival season at the end of December, 2010.

As earlier we shared on TelecomTalk, customer will have to pay a maximum of Rs 19 to the new operator to change network via MNP as Porting charges. However the new operator has the option to waive off the MNP fee or reduce it.

Presently BSNL and Tata Docomo announced their attractive MNP offers with freebies. Wherein subscribers can switch to BSNL at FREE of cost while Tata Docomo  charged Rs.19 for number portability service.

How To USE Or Change your provider

To avail the MNP service subscriber needs to send SMS PORT followed by 10 Digit Mobile Number to 1900 and they will get UPC porting code by SMS after that they need to submit CAF (application form) and MNP form with UPC to desired new service provider.

pakistan earthquake | Earthquake in Delhi - felt as far away as India and the Gulf 2011

A powerful earthquake struck near Dalbandin in southwestern Pakistan early Wednesday morning. The quake could be felt as far away as India and the Gulf.

The earthquake, which measured 7.2 magnitude, hit at 1:23 am in a remote and sparsely populated area in Baluchistan province, near the border with Afghanistan and Iran. It struck about 50 kilometers from Dalbandin, a town so remote Pakistan used the nearby Chagai hills for nuclear tests in 1998.

But this is not the first time that Pakistan experienced the wrath of nature after the flood in 2010. The nation became the pathetic target of earthquake twice in 2010.
On Aug 24, the floods-hit northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan was shaken by a 5.2-magnitude earthquake.
Earthquake in Pakistan results collapse of houses, said the Indian Meteorological Department. While one person was killed in Pakistan due to a wall collapse, no casualties or damage have been reported in India. Tremors of the quake were felt in Delhi, Jaipur, Barmer, Ganganagar and Jaisalmer in Rajasthan and parts of Haryana.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the epicentre of the earthquake was located in southwestern Pakistan in the desert area bordering Iran and Afghanistan. But not much is being reported from there as it is a remote area. Reports from local news agencies say there has been no extensive damage in nearby towns.

“The earthquake struck at a depth of 7.4 km,” an IMD official said. The epicentre was located at 28.9 degrees north on the latitude and 64 degrees east on the longitude.

A US Geological Service report said the epicentre of the earthquake was located 45 km from Dalbandin in southwest Pakistan. It said the focal depth of the earthquake was 84 km. A 7.6 magnitude earthquake had devastated northern Pakistan and parts of Kashmir in October 2008, killing thousands of people.
